Passive Static discharging Products

The discharging of static electricity in fast modern production processes in industries like printing, textile, plastic, converting and packaging is from major importance to create high quality, safe and competitive production output.

Static Discharging (Static Elimination) can be applied in 2 forms: Passive static discharging  or Active static discharging.

Passive discharging generally uses Passive static discharging products to neutralise static charges on moving webs or sheets of paper or plastics. These Passive discharging products can be:

-Grounded discharging pins,

-Grounded springs,

-Grounded conductive brushes (Carbon Brushes or tinsel).

However this method is very inefficient to completely discharge or eliminate static charges,

there will always be a (small) rest- or residual -charge. The effect also is not monitored and leaves a unpredicted rest charge. Luck is needed to get a good positive result in different types of environmental parameters.

This rest-charge can be measured with a handheld electrostatic fieldmeter type FMX-004.

If the static needs to be completely removed on a professional and controlled manner modern industry is choosing nowadays for the active method for discharging. Luck should not and is not needed to be a part of a modern method of production. Production machinery can be equiped with controlled methods of operation so that QHSE managers know what the result from ionisation really is.

Active removal of static electricity is done with high voltage ionisation equipment.

This equipment produces positive and/or negative ions to remove static electricity from your products.

If your product is negatively static charged it will attract positive ions and when charged positively it will attract negative ions.

Sometimes, when the static charges are very high (sparks!), a combination of Passive static discharging products and active static discharging products are used to discharge a web completely. In such an application the passive unit is installed upstream the active static discharger.

Simco-Ion prefers to work with active ionisation so we can really control the production process and predict the outcome of the process.

Simco-Ion Europe is developing and producing this ionisation equipment for over 60 years now.

In our products program you will find several product for the removal of static. For more information about this topic or about our products, please contact Simco-Ion.
